CLASSICAL ANIMATION STUDIES


The Classical Animation Studies Program is specifically designed to educate students in the principles of classical 2D animation. Industry professionals teach the Classical Animation Studies Program. Students will create a portfolio highlighting their achievements in 2D animation principles.

Students will learn traditional animation skills in the areas of storyboarding, character design and animation theory. This course will include instructed classes from a top industry professional as well as lab time during which the instruction will be available for one-on-one consultation.

The digital portfolio produced in Multimedia Professional Studies will be assessed prior to student's acceptance in this course.

TITLE: Classical Animation Studies

DURATION:

Ten months, September to June; Saskatoon
Classes are Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3:30 pm.
Students are required to be in class during this time.

OBJECTIVE:

This course is designed to introduce students to classical animation in the areas of movement, facial and body gestures, walk cycles, storyboarding, and layout. Upon completion of this course students will produce a portfolio of their work. It is anticipated that students who graduate from the Classical Animation Studies program will continue their studies in the field of 3D Animation and Game Design.

PREREQUISITES:

· Grade 12 diploma or equivalent (as per Canadian standards), or Mature Student Status
· Mature students are 19 years of age or older and have been out of high school for at least one year.
· A portfolio is required to apply to this course.
· Acceptance procedures include portfolio review, interview and portfolio assessment.

CURRICULUM:

This New Media Campus curriculum has been designed by industry professionals to give students a very intense hands-on experience. Students will use industry-standard software, namely U.S. Animation and Flipbook to test and assemble their animation sequences.

TOOLS SUPPLIED:

· All tools are supplied in-class only, property of New Media Campus:
· Drawing Boards
· Light Tables
· Software

·Approximately $150 required for books (list to be provided)

TUITION COSTS:

· Tuition is $12,000 for Classical Animation Studies, no GST or PST on tuition.

· The first instalment of $7,200 is due on September 4th.
· The second instalment of $4,800 is due on December 3rd.

· FUNDED STUDENTS:  Payment is due in full on or before orientation.
· Tuitions are to be paid on time or students will not be eligible to attend classes.
· Cash, cheque, certified cheque or money orders are acceptable.
· Cheques made payable to New Media Campus.

STUDENT LOANS or FUNDING PROGRAMS:

· Financial assistance may be available to qualified students.

REFUND POLICY:

A refund will be provided for students who withdraw prior to the course start date.
If you withdraw after the start date, your tuition will be refunded based on the following:
· If 20% or less of the hours of instruction for the course have been delivered, the school will retain 25% of the tuition fee.
· If more than 20% but 50% or less of the hours of instruction for course have been delivered, the school will retain 60% of the tuition fee.
· If more than 50% of the hours of instruction for the course have been delivered, the school will retain 100% of the tuition fee.
